The Art Of Spreading A Smile by Devinian The Art Of Spreading A Smile by Devinian
Backgrounds in the show are getting more and more detailed right now. I'm not sure if thats something to be happy or worry about. Many months of work put in this one.
I won't lie, there is something homely about that Ponyville architecture.
This may be my first painting focusing on a group of characters. I was clearly not certain if I want them to draw all the attention or just be there as a secondary element. Then I just let the flow run it's course. Sugarcube Corner was hell of a work too. Just when I came up with its position I finally started to have fun.
Gummy seems to be tacked on a bit, but weirdly enough... it didn't work without him =D

Of all the things that stand out in the picture, the main thing is how close the buildings are together. Normally Ponyville is drawn with a much wider, well maintained streets like in the show which is more of a modern style while this combined with the excellent rendering of the buildings gives it a feel of a much older time, and gives a much more fantastic feel and gives a sense of awe. Absolutely gorgeous.

This is truly something special. Everytime I look at this picture I feel like that this version of Ponyville is the real one. My heart tries to remember something then, a special sort of feeling. Maybe some sort of nostalgia, or a feeling from a dream (coming true)?
I appreciate the idea of Colgate/Minuette being a part of this picture if it's really her. Their laughter reminds me of the episode "Amending Fences" with Pinkie and Minuette for the party of the(ir) reunion with Moondancer.
Pinkie's Mane is special aswell, never seen her in a style like this before xD And you're right, without Gummy it wouldn't work ^^
Tonight I will try to remember the feeling I'm getting by looking at this picture.

Oh my. That's some heart warming words :) I'm sure I didn't make Ponyville so different from the show. Show staff just gives as something really atmospheric and so well designed that we can do so much with it.
Yes, that's Minuette, the second happiest pony we know of.

Wow. This is one of "those pictures", one of those pony works that will actually survive in my memory alongside the actual show for years to come, instead of being forgotten alongside the gigantormous sea of neverending pony stuff that this fandom endlessly produces. It's not like you haven't produced marvellous works before, but this one right here I feel manages to capture the very heart of MLP, or at least the elements I enjoy more.

Anyway, too many compliments. I dont like Pinkie's mane. And I don't think her expressions matches the enthusisasm that her body shows. I mean, really, whyyyy are those eyebrows so straight?! Why Devinian, Why?!

Oh, that's easy to explain! I'm more into scenery and atmosphere, even in traditional art I'm interested mainly in the realism art style. What I'm not getting is expressionism. I'm just generally bad at expressions and expressing feelings through paintings. Happiness is probably the most complicated one. That's why I was avoiding painting Pinkie so much. But if I didn't... I would never know better. I'm happy that I didn't forget her brows completely =D

Pinkie Pie is the queen of spreading smiles around.

The level of detail that has gone into this piece is extraordinary, because of that, it feels so lively, vivid, Pinkie in particular just seems to leap out of the picture and I can't help but smile with her.

Wow, I'm speechless. Your artwork never ceases to impress but I think this one definitely takes the cake. I absolutely love your take on the architecture and layout, it actually looks like a location that makes sense logically while still keeping the strong mood of Ponyville alive. I'd say the months of work definitely paid off. =P

Ponyville is pretty much Hobbiton. Lauren Faust was very much inspired by The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. That's why they are like they are and why it has that homely feel to it. It's based on the pre-World War 1 English countryside. I think you've done an amazing job of capturing its essence here.

Magnificent. I don't see a lot of artist who goes this far for putting this amount of details and elements in a single drawing and all this lineless.

Seriously, bravo!

Thanks. I was playing with lines long ago. Incredibly useful, but it sometimes limits your control and also people were upset when I was leaving outlines on the ponies.

My pleasure. As much as the vector style of the show is adorable, the lineless style make is so much richer and warm. Of course, if the show shown this much amount of elements of details, we would have to wait much longer between seasons. Your scene is so appealing to the eye and make you feel being part of it. And would refuse a Pinkie hug?

Keep up the great work

You did a fantastic job bringing the busy little town to life, not least of all for bright and chipper Pinkie Pie and her extemporaneous entourage gathering around her and Gummy. Her happiness is definitely spreading like wildfire, and even that one pony waving from her garden can't escape her chipper charms.

Along with such beautiful work on the ponies you did freakin' amazing work on all of the charming and OMFG-so-very-detailed buildings, both close up and then in perfect perspective as we look down the lane. The background, plants, flowers, objects, etc. are all fantastic as well. You really outdid yourself, and I truly appreciate your hard work. Thank you.

Wonderful art!! <3 <3 I love it so much! Aspecially the environment, with the grass, the flowers and the trees, it's SO gorgeous! Also I can only approve of the scene and theme, as I'm very much like Pinkie myself, and yes, spreading smiles is an art!
Amazing work with this <3
